Biotox
B.I.O.Tox® is a mycotoxin adsorbing agent and consists of various silicates combined with extracts of the cell walls of a yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). This ensures high efficacy against a wide range of mycotoxins.
Application areas
In animal nutrition minimisation of mycotoxin loads of feeds and animals is of great importance to enusre the animals' health and performance as well as the safety of consumers. This aim can be achieved by
a) a "mycotoxin-management" (optimization of harvest, processing and storage) and
b) the detoxifying of the contaminated feedingstuffs by toxinbinders. So the availability and therefore the absorption of the toxic substances by the animals are reduced.
The best way to reduce problems associated with mycotoxins efficiently is to combine both variants. To reduce the absorption of mycotoxins - mycotoxinbinders like B.I.O.Tox® are a suitable option.
Properties
The efficiency of B.I.O.Tox® is based on its ability to bind various mycotoxins found in the animals' feed under varying conditions in the gastrointestinal tract. So the adsorption of the mycotoxins is inhibited which reduces negative effects on performance and health. The following intermolecular interactions are the reason for a chemical and/or physical adsorption between toxinbinder and mycotoxin:
- Hydrogen bonds between mycotoxin and detoxifying agent
- Van der Waals forces
- Electrostatic interactions (attraction or repulsion)
- Geometric effects related to the morphology of the molecule
- Synergisms. In this case the binding of a molecule induces conformational changes in the adsorbing agent which results in enhanced affinity for another molecule or, in contrast, inhibits the binding of further molecules.
- Hydrophobic interactions
Due to the multitude of possible binding processes one single toxin binding substance is not able to bind all, or at least most of the existing mycotoxins. As the contamination of feedingstuffs is mostly not related to only one mycotoxin, combinations of different active substances are used to achieve a wide range of efficacy against a multitude of mycotoxins.
Advantages
- High affinity for Aflatoxin B1, ochratoxin A and fusarium toxins
- Prevents adverse effects of mycotoxins
- Improves performance of animals
Dosage
To avoid or minimize the several negative effects caused by mycotoxins, the application of mycotoxin specific adsorbents, the mycotoxin binders, is needed beside other different methods.
- Degree of mycotoxin contamination (mycotoxin concentration in the feed, number of mycotoxin)
- Kind of mycotoxin (Aflatoxin B1 and/or Deoxynivalenol and/or ... )
- Animal species (different sensitivity against mycotoxins)
- Gender
- Health status of animals
- Storage conditions
- Different climate zones
