Russia has allowed some Brazilian pig producing establishments to resume exports of pork and pig offal products to Russia, effective August 18.Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian federal service for veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance, said specifically that bans of imports from three facilities operated by meat and poultry company BRF are ending.In announcing the resumption of Brazilian trade, Rosselkhoznadzor directed Brazilian colleagues to take extra steps to assure that there are no exported pork products with residual ractopamine, which is banned for usage in the Customs Union (CU).The resumption of Brazilian pork exports to Russia comes shortly after Russia placed aban on agricultural products from the U.S., E.U., Canada, Australia and Norway, because those nations had imposed economic sanctions on Russia as a result of the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Many analysts had predicted that Russia, still in need of meat and poultry imports, would look to Latin American nations like Brazil to fill that need.Ban on Brazilian cattle intestines liftedAt the same bans on pork and pig offal were lifted, Rosselkhoznadzor is lifting temporary restrictions on bovine intestine import to the Russian Federation from a Brazilian cattle slaughtering and beef processing establishment under the condition that requirements of the export veterinary certificate compliance. The federal service also required that the system of tracing intestine production will be transparent.
